Nervous for your interview? Well, here are some helpful tips!

7 Tips on How to Approach an Interview:

 1.  Research the company

Knowing about the key information and purpose of the company you are interviewing with can help you approach the big day with more  confidence. You can know more about the company by following them via social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, etc.) or through recent press releases.

 2.  Rehearse your answers to common interview questions

“Tell me about yourself” is a great example of this: interviewers will want to know about what your interests are and what you can potentially offer to their company.

*Tip- It is a good idea to come in prepared to talk about salary expectations

 3.  Reread job descriptions

By going through specific expectations that are looked for in an individual pursuing a specific position, you can explain how your strengths and capabilities will align with the company’s requirements.

 4.  Prepare a list of references

Just like how aspiring college applicants need to submit letters of recommendation to prove their reliability to colleges, your interviewer expects for you to submit a list of references any time during the interview process. Preparing a reference list ahead of time can help quickly complete this step for progress to the hiring process.

 5.  Be prepared with examples of your work

It is likely that your interviewer will ask specific questions regarding any specific work you may have completed that relates to the position of interest. After reviewing the job descriptions, think about what you have done in the past and how that was similar to the skill sets that are needed to carry out specific tasks for the position in the company you are interviewing for.

 6.  Prepare questions for your interviewer

You are most likely formally being introduced to the company for the first time, so you will obviously have questions for us. Employers want to know how interested you are in playing a role for their company, so it is highly recommended you prepare a few questions before coming for the interview. A few examples of questions may include:

  • How would you describe the characteristics of someone who would typically succeed in this role?

  • Can you explain what every-day responsibilities for this position would entail?

  • What are some challenges you are facing in your role?

 7.  Be yourself!

That is all we ask! We want to know who you are as a person and what you value. Just stay relaxed and allow your personality to take over and express your thoughts and opinions. Tell us a story about why you are special!

Good luck, we know you will do great! Coloradan looks forward to warmly greeting you soon!
